Clarence Cannon Elementary Library is benefiting from a program
titled “Adopt-A-Classroom” because of a local mother and her place
of employment. Marleen Frein, employed by H & R Block, was
asked to support a charitable cause through her job, so after some
searching on the Internet she located this program where a local
organization could benefit. Mrs. Frein is the mother of high school
student, Angelete Frein, and did this program in honor of her
parents, Norvall and Roberta Hagemeier. Mrs. Frein stated, “she was
happy to support a local cause where she could actually see her
money being used wisely.”
The library was enrolled in this program so that they could request
Mark Twain Award Nominee books for the students to read. If
students read at least four of the nominees then they are allowed
to vote on their favorite book through the statewide reading
incentive program geared for grades fourth thru sixth, with votes
being tallied in April. Mrs. Frein’s generous donation allowed the
librarian, Cheri Rountree, to purchase four hardcover books, three
of which are 2009-2010 Mark Twain Award Nominees and one that is
the 2008 Caldecott Medal Winner. Mrs. Rountree stated, “I am so
excited to see such a great program at work in our school. The
students will benefit from this greatly.”
