Honoring Mrs. Talbot

February 19, 2010

What person is always on the basketball court, never scores a basket, but the game can't be played without them?  The answer is Carla Talbot.  Since 1994, Mrs. Talbot has been at the scorers' table running the clock for home games at Elsberry middle school, junior varsity and varsity games.  In a rough calculation that amounts to somewhere in the neighborhood of 1300 games, with very few absences.  As clock keeper, Mrs. Talbot has brought an unwavering amount of professionalism, consistency and fairness to the contests at Elsberry.  She knows the game of basketball, has had a positive influence on the athletes and has shown respect to coaches and officials  Her efforts go well beyond mere score keeping, always promoting quality and professionalism in all Elsberry sporting activities.  She has voluntarily taken on many extra duties such as organizing Homecoming events and Senior Recognition activities in an effort to celebrate the students at Elsberry.  Not only has she been steadfast in her help with extra curricular activities, she has also served as an outstanding classroom teacher and respected leader at Elsberry Schools for over 31 years.  Upon her retirement this year, she will be greatly missed.  It can never be said that a person is irreplaceable; however, it will be extremely difficult to replicate the qualities that Mrs. Talbot has brought to Elsberry Schools.  At the final home game on February 9, Mrs. Talbot was recognized with flowers and balloons for her hard work and dedication by this year's senior athletes.  Surprise guests for the recognition were her husband, Joe Talbot; her son and family,  Brandon and Shelley Talbot, Brooklyn and Isabella of Fulton; and her daughter and husband, Jodi and Chad Dormire of Pocahontas,IL .
