    Dentist Visit

    April 15, 2012

Students at Clarence Cannon Elementary School bared their teeth on March 29, for a good cause, it was Healthy Smiles Day! Area dentist, Dr. Gregory Casalone, DDS and helpers volunteered their time to work with 210 students in regards to this program.  Helping with the services were: Annie Chambers, Dental Assistant; Kathy Baldwin, RDH; Jan Lyttle, RDH; Cassie Elie, Dental Assistant; Jo-Ann Creech, LPN, Dental Assistant; and Tobi LaGrosso, parent.

The “Healthy Smiles” oral health Preventive Services Program is a community-supported program, as area dental professionals volunteer their valuable time to come into the school and apply dental fluoride varnish to student’s teeth. The benefits of the fluoride varnish are it strengthens tooth enamel and prevents decay and it arrests early dental decay. This yearly program is monitored and the supplies are offered as a free service to all students through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Permission forms for the next fluoride varnish and screening will be sent home with students at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year and will be held sometime in October.

The program was orchestrated at Elsberry Schools by school nurse, Jolene Hatcher.
