Good fortune has struck twice in as many years, as an Elsberry High School Senior has been awarded the Black and White Ball Scholarship at Lindenwood University in cooperation with St. Louis famed Rapper, Nelly and Plaza Motors. Jordan Powell and his family was guest of honor at a ceremony, Wednesday April 25 on the Lindenwood Campus for the prestigious award presentation. In 2008 Nelly and Lindenwood announced a partnership that would award two high school seniors a four-year, full tuition scholarship. The scholarship applications were distributed to all high schools in the greater St. Louis area. Students who applied had to write a 200-300 page essay describing their academic success, leadership qualities and financial need.
After the two recipients were presented their scholarships by Nelly, each then received a new laptop computer and book bag from Jerry Patterson a representative from Plaza Motors. Jordan will be majoring in Broadcasting at Lindenwood. His career goal is to become and ESPN Broadcaster.
Attending the ceremony (and their relationship) were Karen Kroeger, mother; Lauryn Eberhart, sister; Teresa Kroeger, grandmother; Mary Gallatin, aunt; Amanda Gallatin, cousin; Julie Basler, EHS Guidance Counselor; and Sarah O’Brien, EHS English Teacher.
Last year, 2011 EHS Graduate, Carmen Rhodes was awarded this same scholarship. The teachers and staff at Elsberry should be proud to have assisted two students in becoming the people that they are and being awarded something of great value to be able to further their education.
