Please contact our district nurse, Jolene Hatcher, for more information.
HEAD LICE
Head lice is a common problem in all schools today. When a problem with head lice occurs, parents will be notified and the various treatment options will be explained. Children will be sent home with live lice and/or nits. If you find head lice on your child at home, please treat the child, then bring your child to school the next day and wait until the nurse can check him/her.
IMMUNIZATIONS
As mandated by the State of Missouri, up to date immunizations are required of every child before attending a public school. All students who enroll in the Elsberry R-2 School District, Kindergarten through grade twelve, will be required to have completed all state immunization requirements or have a signed exemption form BEFORE ATTENDING SCHOOL. An updated immunization record including month, day, and year of immunizations and booster doses of DPT, Polio, Measles, Rubella, and Mumps will provide the documentation needed to attend school. Beginning with the kindergarten class for the 2005-06 school year, an additional requirement of Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine is required. Beginning with the kindergarten class of 2010-11, a second Varicella dose is required.
MEDICATIONS
All prescription medication will be given under the direction of the school nurse. Medication must be in the appropriate prescription bottle. A signed note from a parent/guardian is also required.
In order to conform to state guidelines, the school must require a physician’s written order to dispense Tylenol, cough/cold medicine, etc. All medication must be delivered to school by an adult 18 years or older in the properly labeled medicine bottles. Your child’s safety cannot be assured when medicine arrives at school in an envelope or sandwich bag. These guidelines must be followed.
The school does not stock over the counter medications. Students are not to take medications without going through the nurse’s office.
