Our 4th and 5th grade students participated in College and Career week on Career Day learning about a variety of professions. If you would love to tell our students about your job Mrs. Maiuro and Mrs. Hagemeier are always looking for volunteers for the upcoming spring 2024 Career Day. Please let these people know how much we appreciate them visiting with our students.

Middle school student council attended the Teen Summit today with other Lincoln county youth. This event is sponsored by DART and focuses on developing leaders in reducing teen drug and alcohol use.
Mrs. Crystal Meyer is putting together a new program for students in grades 5-8. The information about the Read, Right, and Run program is attached. All students who wish to participate need to register. Please contact Mrs. Meyer at cmeyer@elsberry.k12.mo.us with any further questions.
What do shapes and math have to do with nature? Ask a fifth grader what they have learned in math about hexagons and bee hives.
Mrs. Kreuger recently attended the Gifted Association of Missouri conference at Truman University. While there she was able to attend multiple sessions from leaders in the field of gifted education and neurodiversity.
Don't forget to support the LCSO Youth Dances. The dances are what pays for a large portion of the annual youth summer camp.
Mr. Foster and his students are applying their reading and measurement skills in the kitchen.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. Please encourage your child to participate in the theme days and use it as an opportunity to discuss ways to say no to drugs.
5th and 6th Grade EMS students are invited to an outdoor movie night on Friday, October 27. The fee is $3 per child. The evening is organized by the EMS Student Council.
Mrs. Heras is teaching fifth grade students more about how to read and play music using recorders.

Mrs. Gomel’s 7th Grade Advisory has HEART!
They’ve chosen a community service project that is two-fold. First they want to help save the earth by recycling aluminum cans. Then with the funds earned from recycling they want to donate that money to Alzheimer’s research for a cure. Many of us, in this small advisory class, have a family member or a friend that suffers from this terrible disease. Alzheimer’s research is one of the least supported causes and yet this disease is a fast growing concern. We have to do something!
Here are options in which you can help us:
1. By collecting and recycling aluminum cans and donating the money to our advisory group so that we can give it to Alzheimer’s research.
2. Send in your bags of cans to Mrs. Gomel.
3. Contact Mrs. Gomel so she can make arrangements to come pick up your cans. You can email her at jgomel@elsberry.k12.mo.us or call her at school (573) 898-5554 x 247
We will collect cans all school year. At the end of the school year she may organize a field trip to take her advisory group and all of the cans collected on a bus to the recycling center. The kids will enjoy seeing the process of recycling, receiving a check and forwarding that on to do good for Alzheimer’s research. We will give ALL the money we earn from recycling and donate it to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. You can learn more about them at www.alzinfo.org.

Students of the month in middle school enjoyed pizza today. Each week a teacher selects a student to be recognized and rewarded for showing good character or outstanding growth.
Mr. Miller emailed the October and November newsletter to parents yesterday. If you did not recieve it please make sure we have your most up to date email address on file in the middle school office.
Today we hosted Careers on Wheels. Students learned about a variety of jobs that rely upon a vehicle. This is part of College and Career Week throughout the District.
