Important reminders to ensure student safety. Please talk about this with your child.

Talk to your child about when it is safe to get on the bus. Look for that stop sign and arm before you enter the road. Safety is our first priority.

Mrs. Gomel’s 7th Grade Advisory has HEART!
They’ve chosen a community service project that is two-fold. First they want to help save the earth by recycling aluminum cans. Then with the funds earned from recycling they want to donate that money to Alzheimer’s research for a cure. Many of us, in this small advisory class, have a family member or a friend that suffers from this terrible disease. Alzheimer’s research is one of the least supported causes and yet this disease is a fast growing concern. We have to do something!
Here are options in which you can help us:
1. By collecting and recycling aluminum cans and donating the money to our advisory group so that we can give it to Alzheimer’s research.
2. Send in your bags of cans to Mrs. Gomel.
3. Contact Mrs. Gomel so she can make arrangements to come pick up your cans. You can email her at jgomel@elsberry.k12.mo.us or call her at school (573) 898-5554 x 247
We will collect cans all school year. At the end of the school year she may organize a field trip to take her advisory group and all of the cans collected on a bus to the recycling center. The kids will enjoy seeing the process of recycling, receiving a check and forwarding that on to do good for Alzheimer’s research. We will give ALL the money we earn from recycling and donate it to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. You can learn more about them at www.alzinfo.org.
Take HEART and help us make a difference for our planet and our community and beyond!

Whether you're in distress or just want to talk about something on your mind call or text 988. You can also chat at 988lifeline.org.

Did you know? Grover Cleveland helped make Labor Day a national holiday. After violence related to the Pullman railroad strike, President Cleveland and lawmakers in Washington wanted a federal holiday to celebrate labor - and not a holiday celebrated on May 1. Cleveland signed an act in 1894 establishing the federal holiday; most states had already passed laws establishing a Labor Day holiday by that point. Sen. James Henderson Kyle of South Dakota introduced S. 730 to make Labor Day a federal legal holiday on the first Monday of September. It was approved on June 28, 1894.

We have had a great start to the school year even with the warm temperatures. At the end of the day Tuesday, we experienced a partial power outage that caused some problems with our HVAC units today. All of the classroom units are now functioning and we are currently working on the cafeteria and kitchen units.
At this point we are planning to follow our normal dismissal time for the remainder of the week. An early release time was considered, but the forecasted temperature is only a few degrees warmer from 11 am to 4 pm and therefore would not provide much benefit.
The bus ride home is our biggest concern for our students and bus drivers. If you are able to pick up your students Thursday and Friday, we would appreciate you doing so to shorten our bus routes as much as possible. Please communicate any changes from normal pickup routines to your child’s building office by 2:00 pm daily.
